Getting the new year off to a Good Start...

That's right folks. The milk is dwindling, and staring in the new year, my little man will be getting his first formula. The daycare he goes to provides Nestle Good Start, so hopefully that is agreeable with him. I am kind of sad about this, although I won't be missing out on any nursing sessions, it will just be to cover the deficit of the milk I don't get pumped for him. I still have quite a bit of milk in the freezer, so I figure one fresh bottle, one frozen bottle, and formula the rest of the day. And formula for his cereal. Really, I shouldn't be sad, we made it to nine months with no formula, and so what if my breastfeeding goal was 1 year, I'm close to that now. I need to "inventory" the freezer, and calculate how long the stash will hold out. I think there are about 50-60 bags in there, with maybe 3-4 ounces in each, so that might be two months worth of milk, if I use one a day.
Hopefully I still get enough milk to cover the morning and two night feeds. Last night little man was nursing, and pulled off, looked up at me and squinted his eyes shut and gave me the biggest smile! I wanted to cry he was SOO adorable!

In other news, he had his 9 month check up on Friday. He weights 20lbs 8 oz, is 28.5 inches long and is measuring in the 50-75 percentile for both. His head is still at 97th percentile (I don't remember the measurement.)

That is all for now!

General Baby News... and stuff

The baby is crawling. I don't remember if I already said that. He finally figured it out on his 8 month birthday. Now, just a few weeks later, he is pulling himself up to standing, on everything. The more mobile objects tend to be a little disastrous, but stationary objects are just fine.

I've just had a revelation. He doesn't yell while he is in transition, just when sitting or standing, so the key is to keep him moving. Yeah, like that will work.

He had pulled himself up on the couch the other day, and for some reason had one of those little wrist rattles on his arm. He got into his standing position, and noticed the rattle, and took his little hand and grabbed the rattle. Letting go of the couch. He stood there for 10 seconds or so, then realized what was going on, and fell down. My little man is growing up so fast!

Other new things:
  • He claps. It's cute
  • He waves. This is also very cute.
  • He stands up in his crib. Not so cute, especially at 4 am.
  • He snores, just like daddy. This is hopefully just temporary with the cold weather.
  • He says something that sounds a lot like "I want my mama." We don't know what it means.
  • When mommy laughs he laughs back. Even if he is sad or upset about something.
  • He can climb the stairs (with supervision). He giggles while he goes up and down.
I think that is all.

I'm not ready!

So the weather forecast says it is supposed to snow today.   Two inches!  While it is kind of exciting, it will be Finley’s first snow, it is a LOT of snow!  Ack!  At least I have the next few days off.

My current morning routine is carrying all of my stuff (bookbag, laptop, pump bag and baby bag,) PLUS the baby, since he has outgrown his infant carrier out to the car.  How much fun will that be with slippery icy snowy ground!  Yay!

Other things I am NOT ready for?  My test today.  That’s right, I am so not prepared.  But it’s okay.  I’ll get through it.  I’m going to leave a little early today to go study a bit before the test I thinkAnd if all else fails (and so do I)  my prof drops the lowest test score.  This is the third out of four tests, and the first two were okay, I got an A and a B, it just puts a lot more pressure on the fourth test if I do poorly on this one.

If I’m gonna leave early that means I have to get some work done now, since that is what they pay me for.

Very insane busy week!

Well, not so much busy as stressful… I have a test tomorrow, and I am ill prepared for it. Aurgh! So what do I do? Screw around on the internet. People need Christmas lists ASAP, so I worked on that. I should be studying and I elfed myself instead. Check it out:

That’s all for today.

My track record right now is not so hot!

Oh well! Good thing I don't lose anything if I don't post! I was reading around online and someone, somewhere said that NoBloPoMo should be in January. It's less busy than November. I'll agree with that.

Work is kind of busy, and class is kicking my butt (I have a test in one week, and I'm only 4 chapters behind on my homework (5 if you count NEW material that isn't on this test.) Oh well, I don't have to turn it in, so I am not REALLY worried about the homework, just passing the darn test.

My Creative Memories group had an open house yesterday, and I think it went pretty well. I had two customers! Yay!

Okay, back to work!

Wow, I missed two days in a row!

I missed posting this weekend.  Of course, we were at my In-Laws house, and they don’t really have internet.  Well,  they have dial up, but it is such a pain to use other people’s computers!  I am nut using that as an excuse, I just felt the need to put that out there.

We went to Nebraska for a wedding on Friday.  Or, well, it was actually just a wedding reception.  It was nice.  Even nicer was that they had a place for me to go feed the baby that wasn’t in a ca or bathroom.  (At least not directly)  The reception center had a bride’s room.  It was a bathroom with a couple of stalls, (one of which was huge, for fitting in the bride and her dress and maybe helper) and a little sitting area with a couch.  It would have been great, except despite the fact that the room was labeled brides room, more people than the wedding party were using it as the bathroom.  I guess that is what happens when the actual bathroom is like half a mile from the reception room.  The design of the room, and décor of the hall in general also left a lot to be desired.  The whole building was painted gray, with black vinyl baseboard.  I guess that is suppoed to be elegant, but to me everything just looked dingy.  The layout of the bride’s room also left a lot to be desired.  The sitting area was maybe 7-8 feet wide and 12 feet long, and when you open the door from the hallway, you see right into the room.  (As a result, when I was feeding the baby every time the door opened I was on display for all to see, if they were looking hard enough)  As a designer myself, I think it could have been done much better.  Of course, they were probably limited by the frugality (I really mean cheapness) of the owners. That tends to happen (a lot) in the world of Architecture.

So many things, not enough time!

This post will be a race against the battery life of my laptop.

We are going to a wedding tonight, so I am posting now, 'cause I know after the wedding I won't want to post! I was going to take today off, but that didn't happen, so I went in for a little bit, got what needed to be done done, and here I sit, waiting for the family to get home. Pumping of course.

It seems weird to say family. I know we are one, but it just feels, well, like I said, weird. I guess that is because I don't commonly refer to them as my family. I mean, my family has been my parents and brother for so long, it is difficult to adust to a NEW family unit. Not to say I don't think my parents and brother (and his wife and daughter) are still family, they very much are, not to mention the hubby's huge family. But I have my very own little family now. And l like it!

Well faithful reader. (If there is one!) I should go now, before the computer shuts itself off and this post is lost forever! (Or, well, until I drag out the cable and plug the computer back in...)

Have a good Friday!

No use crying over spilled milk...

Whoever coined that phrase wasn't a lactating woman. Spilling the breastmilk is about the worst thing, considering how hard it is to get the stuff in the first place. (It is also refered to as liquid gold.) Spilling it really does make me cry. Then I get angry.

I'd like to redesign the pump system. I think it should be a bit more streamlined, so it can be used under a loose shirt. I enjoy pumping in the car when we travel (I tend to get more milk then, not sure why), and the dang thing is so bulky and awkward, I feel like the truckers are staring at me! But, such is my life right now.

Just my random thought on pumping. Night.

Oh Man!

Okay, well I suck!  I laid down to feed the baby last night, and when I woke up it was this morning!  Only the end of the first week and I’ve already missed two days!  But lets focus on the important stuff- I got lots of sleep last night!

Tuesday, November 06, 2007

Ahhh... Sleep is a wonderful thing!

And how would I know this?  I never seem to get any these days!  The baby was up half the night Sunday night with a terrible cough, that made me want to ask him how long he’s been smoking… you know that rattle-y chest, hacking cough that smokers get, he has it.  Yay!   I also have a couch, but for some reason, we can’t be up coughing at the same time, oh no, he finally goes back to sleep and then I start up with it!  Ugh!

So I am going to do the best thing for me… take a shower and go to bed. Of course, once I fall asleep, the Finman will wake up.

Oh, and that so there, that I just used, it’s not quite that same usage as my usual so…  so I’m going to let it slide!

Because the Husband Requested it...

Books I am currently reading:  “The Thief Lord” by Cornelia Funke.  It is a children’s book.  I’ve read it a couple of times.  It’s  a pretty good quick read.  I am also reading “Dragonfly in Amber” by Diana Gabaldon.  It’s the second book in a series about a timetravelling woman (of sorts)  It’s set on the 1700’s and 1900’s.  Very interesting (I’ve read all six that are out now) The author is working on book 7, hopefully to come out in 2009.

Short post, I’m tired!  Til tomorrow!

So this is my today's post..

The other one was my Saturday post.

The baby is trying to crawl. In the process he has learned how to sit up. This is an improvement, because he just yells at me when he is on his tummy and wants to be put back sitting, but now he can fix that himself. Yay! He still yells at me to fix it, but I tell him he can get there himself. I figure he'll be crawling soon, he is so very close, but has to be mad before he goes forward. It is pretty darn funny.

He got "attacked" at daycare on Friday. One of the other kids came and yanked on his shirt and scratched his face and shoulder while he was playing in the exersaucer.. It looks like he got hit in the nose. Aww, my baby's first fight! (Well, he got bit once too...) Ahh, the joys of daycare. I feel sorry for the other kids when he can walk... he's gonna have "incident reports" all the time!

I don;t know if I've mentioned it, but the Finman goes to an Army daycare, so there is a form for everything. Incident reporting, meds, lotions, food he can eat. It's kind of crazy. But, it is fairly cheap. Given the option, I would stay home with him in a heartbeat, but since that isn't an option, he goes to his baby boot camp. (Okay, it's nothing like boot camp) They eat breakfast and sing songs and eat snacks and play with toys and eat lunch and play outside.. It's a busy place. Fin's favorite part is the food. The boy loves to eat.

Okay, off to bed!

Okay, so I suck

It's only day three and I screwed up already. But, we went to a party, and seeing as I have an 8 month old, I totally didn't expect to get home at 2 am. Normally, we leave at 10. Holy crap. Ohwell!

Runny nose baby and a mom who hates boogers...

Yeah. It’s a bad combo.

Have I mentioned I don't like snot? This morning in the car, boogers everywhere. I actually had to find a tissue so his boogers didn't get all over me when I took him out, since he likes to bury his face in my shirt. And it is only November. It is going to be a LONG winter!

Blogger and Baby

Day two of NaBloPoMo!

So if you don’t know anything about blogger, it is pretty cool.  Like right now, I am typing my blog in Outlook, and I can just E-mail it to my personal blogger address, and it posts!  I haven’t explored a whole lot, but so far I like this place.

The baby has been VERY fussy lately.  I think he is teething, and he is not a happy camper.  He probably tolerates pain about as much as mommy does.  Maybe more, cause mom is a huge wuss!

I’ve noticed that I tend to start with “So…”  I need to work on that, because it annoys me to no end!  Reading through my past blogs I have a LOT of paragraphs/thoughts that start that way.

Okay, back to work!  More to come!

This is a test blog...

This is a test of the blog publishing system.  If this were a real blog, information would follow.  I repeat, this is a test of the blog publishing system.

Day one of NaBloPoMo. Posting, so, so far so good!

I haven't posted a blog in FOREVER! Let's see if we can make a habit!

Lets see, from my last post in February, I was pregnant. Nope, not that anymore. Didn't know what variety of baby we were having. Know that now.

Okay, up to speed!

I have a 7 1/2 month old son named Finley. He is a joy every day! Yes, even through poop and tears and hair pulling, a joy. I never knew I could love someone so much! But I do.

Right now, he is in the process of learning to crawl, against his will. He would much rather get up and walk, but due to the fact that he weighs around 20 lbs, and probably 9 of that is head, he is just a little bit top heavy. (Okay, so maybe that is a little over exaggerated, but lets face it, his little 50% body is a little disproportionate with his 97%+ head) In other words, he is top heavy. He stands up, then falls over. If he leans over to get something, he can't get back up. Poor kid.

He is also teething. This makes for a cranky baby. Hopefully soon we will at least have a tooth to show for it. Hopefully. I mean, how long can a kid teethe for and not get teeth? We are going on two months now.

That's all for today. Tune in tomorrow (hopefully!) for a day in the life of moomy. (No, not a typo, I just feel like a dairy cow.)

So a lot has changed since my last post. (Go figure, it's been, what, 8 months?) Work has greatly imporoves with the absence of the crappy partner. Aside from him, Ken (one of the other interns) left for a position at a different company, and Ashley, our other intern, also left us this last summer to persue higher education, leaving just me in the intern department. Our draftsperson quit in October (whoo!) But we also hired a new intern in September, and an interior designer in October, (although mainly she just does the same kind of things the interns do.)

But the really big news is that my husband and I expecting the birth of our first child in March. Yeah, like I said, a lot has changed. Things are going pretty well so far, I have started to get pretty uncomfortable lately, but I think that can be expected in the 9th month of pregnancy. We don't know what we are having, and are kind of having trouble deciding on names, so hopefully before we go to the hospital we have SOMETHING picked out. We will have to see.
